The Mobile Phone Number Coincidence

Another coincidence story from Rich Masterson.

"I've also remembered another coincidence from a few years ago.

I tried to call an old friend on his last known mobile phone number whom I hadn't been in touch with for over three years. A woman's voice answered, so I said something like, "That's not Simon is it?" She laughed and said, "No, afraid not." I said sorry for troubling her and ended the call

I presumed I had dialled the number wrongly so I tried again. The same voice answered. "Sorry," I said, "that's still not Simon is it?"

"No," she replied, "But is that you Rich?"

I couldn't believe her saying that. Turned out it was a woman I used to work with about five years ago and she recognised my voice!

I came to the obvious conclusion that Simon must have changed his phone or number and his old number had been re-cycled to my old work colleague.

There is another odd bit to this story as Simon actually phoned me the next day! He said he'd been thinking about me the day before so thought he'd give me a call, my phone number was still the same"

Golden Coincidence And A Message From Grandpa

I have two coincidences that I thought I would share with you after reading the majority of the ones on your website.

Saved in the gold mine
The first incident occurred almost 17 years ago when I was just a baby but my Mom told me about it.

My Dad works at a gold mine in the pit. In case you have never seen one it is basically a deep hole in the shape of an oval with shelf like roads stacked from top to bottom for both stability and machinery movement purposes.

My Dad was working a shovel which is used primarily to clean up the roads and moving large rocks that could be hazardous to workers. He was working on one of the shelves when my Mom called him. He told her he would call her back in five minutes - which would give him time to get to safe area where he wouldn't be in the way of other equipment.

When my Dad was safely able to call my Mom back and talk to her he heard over the radio that a shelf had just collapsed. This was the area that mere minutes ago he was just at.

Had my Dad been there for just a couple more minutes it would have been a sure death. My Mom said that she just had an overwhelming desire to talk to him and says she is so thankful she did.

My second coincidence occurred very recently, only a month or so ago.

The same message received from Grandpa
It was about a week before Thanksgiving and we received a call from my Grandma who told us that my Grandpa had passed away. I was instantly in tears and it took me a good while to calm down. When I finally did my Mom and I started talking and reminiscing. She mentioned that it was odd because when she was 19, a week before Thanksgiving, her Grandpa passed away. I was 19 as well.

I kind of thought it was odd and didn't really think anything of it, actually I kind of chuckled and said, "Well thanks for that tradition."

It really got eerie a week later. I had this dream in which I was talking to my Grandma. All of a sudden my Grandpa's ghost was standing there and I talked to him. My Grandma thought I was crazy because she couldn't see him and thought I was talking to myself. Right before I woke up my Grandpa said to me, "It will be alright."

When my Mom got home from work that night I told her about the dream and she just looked at me like I was crazy. Turns out a week after her Grandpa died she had that exact same dream, and her Grandpa told her the exact same thing.

A short coincidence today from someone with the unlikely name of Anon!

"As a uni student I worked at the local supermarket part time. A new colleague came in and told me he had just moved into a new flat over the weekend and found some naughty photos of me in a cupboard!

It turned out that a uni friend had moved out of the flat and had left a few photos, including some of me, in a cupboard. The embarrassment!

The Fruity Coincidence

This is a small personal coincidence story.

I don't eat apples as I don't think they agree me except when cooked in an apple pie. My wife isn't bothered about them either so we never buy them as part of our fruit choice when we go shopping at the supermarket.

However on Friday last week my wife decided to buy two apples along with the normal fruit we wanted. I asked her why she had bought them but she just mumbled something about they might come in useful. So who was I to argue!

On Friday evening my wife ate one of the apples so we had one left.

On Saturday afternoon a neighbour knocked on our door and said that he knew it was a strange request but did we have an apple he could have. It seems he and his wife were holding a kids party for their daughter and were one apple short to give to the children attending.

So funnily enough, or by coincidence or precognition we had a spare apple.

Okay not exactly a world shattering coincidence but it makes you wonder ...

Bumping into a friend miles from home

"Hiya Mike.

I've enjoyed reading about your coincidences and thought I'd share one of my own with you.

It happened at the end of a family holiday in Portugal. We had been staying out in the countryside but were to return home from Faro (the capital city). Upon arriving at the airport it turned out that our flight was delayed to such an extent that we were to be put up in a hotel in the city.

When we got to the hotel we were told that a buffet had been laid out for the delayed passengers on the roof floor, which was also where the hotel pool was situated.

As we got to the roof and rounded the corner to the pool area my mother quite literally 'bumped into' a woman who turned out to be her work colleague. She was staying in that very hotel. It has always struck me as an amazing coming together of time, place and circumstance."

She Found Her Son Exposed On Her Daughters Photo

A classic photo coincidence story from the past.

Photography was a whole different art back in the early 1900s. In some cases pictures were taken on individual photographic plates and these were developed by specialist shops and stores.

In 1914, just prior to the first world war, a German mother took a photo she had taken of her young son, to a shop in Strasbourg, to be developed. Before she could collect the photo war broke out and for some reason she was unable to return to Strasbourg.

Moving forward two years to 1916, the same woman had another child and purchased a photographic plate to take a picture of her newest arrival. She was now in Frankfurt and after taking the photo presented the plate to be developed.

When she went to collect her picture she was annoyed at first as this showed a double exposure i.e. one picture on top of another. She couldn't work out how this could have possibly happened. She was definite that she had only taken only one photo.

Then she looked more closely at the photo and was stunned to see that the new picture of her daughter was in fact superimposed on that of her son - the photo she took two years previously.

By some bizarre coincidence the film plate had somehow been transferred from Strasbourg to Frankfurt and was marked in error as being unused. This was subsequently sold to the woman so she could take a photo of her daughter.

The photo of her son - which she thought she had lost forever - was found, but perhaps not in exactly the format she would have preferred.

Pregnant Tummies Touch In A Flickr Moment

Something light hearted today. The photo above is from Daniel Green amongst his flickr pics.

This is how he describes the coincidence that brought about this photo.

"I showed up to work today and saw that two of my co-workers, who are both equally far along in their pregnancies, just happened to be wearing the same kind of stretchy shirt, one in blue and the other in pink. They were facing each other talking, and as soon as I saw those identically round bellies, I thought of the dots in Flickr's logo! I explained this and asked them if I could take a photo with my camera-phone. They agreed. They even put their bellies together for me."

The flickr dots he mentions are what often shows up on flickr while waiting for a photo or photos set to load on their website (pic on right).
